Applying Overlays to Vehicle Images

Autosoft -

You can easily add overlays to inventory vehicle images for digital merchandising purposes. Marking vehicle images in this way will allow you to brand the images with your dealership's logo and quickly convey important vehicle information at a glance, improving the chances that consumers will notice your vehicles in vehicle merchandising websites and ultimately purchase them.

Note:  Vehicle overlays are part of the Digital Merchandising tools available in Autosoft's Inventory Management product. You must have a subscription to Inventory Management to utilize this functionality. Custom overlay packages are available through and can also be requested from the Image Overlays page of the Vehicle section of the Setup application.

To apply an overlay, you must first add the images to the Vehicles area of the Setup application. For full directions, see the Knowledge Base articles, "Adding an Image Overlay" and "Downloading Overlays from the Overlay Library." To apply the overlays from the Overlay Library or ones you've added to your system, follow these steps:

Step 1. On the Vehicle Search screen, do a quick or advanced search for the vehicle to which you'd like to add an overlay or watermark. You can also scroll through the Vehicle Search list to locate the vehicle.

Step 2. From the Vehicle Search list, click on the vehicle. The vehicle's quick-look card will open, displaying the key vehicle information and a vehicle image, if one has been uploaded for the vehicle.

Step 3. Click View Vehicle. The vehicle record will open to the Overview page. At the top of the vehicle record, the vehicle summary card will display the basic vehicle information, as well as the featured vehicle image.

Step 4. The Image Management Icon on the vehicle summary card allows you to upload and manage vehicle images. If a vehicle image or images have been uploaded to the record, click on the image icon centered below the vehicle image. If an image hasn't been uploaded for the vehicle, the vehicle image area will display a generic "Add Images" message, and you can use the image icon to upload vehicle images. (See "Adding Vehicle Images" for step-by-step details.)

Step 5. The vehicle images pop-up will open, displaying the vehicle images that have been uploaded for the vehicle. The top of the pop-up will display the Gallery Images, which will be those shared for digital merchandising purposes.

If you've set an overlay as the default, the default overlay name will be selected automatically and display in the field (which would otherwise be labeled "Select Overlay") in the upper-right corner of the pop-up, to the left of the Apply button.

If a default hasn't been set or you wish to apply a different overlay than the default, click the Select Overlay option caret to select the overlay or watermark you'd like to apply to the vehicle image/s. All of the included overlays and the overlays you've set up in the Vehicle area of the Setup application will be listed (and the default, if one has been set, will be selected automatically), as well as No Overlay, which allows you to easily clear any overlays you may have previously applied to the images. Click on the overlay you would like to apply.

Step 6. You can select individual image or images to which you would like to apply the overlay by clicking the Overlay checkbox beneath the appropriate image/s. A checkmark will appear in the checkbox. Clicking the checkbox again will clear the checkmark from the box.

If you wish to apply the overlay to all the vehicle images in the pop-up, click to check the Select All checkbox to the left of the Select Overlay field. The Overlay checkbox for all of the vehicle images will be checked.

Step 7. Click the Apply button in the upper-right corner of the pop-up to apply the overlay. The overlay will be applied to the vehicle images you selected.

Step 8. Click Edit Images to preview a full-size image of the vehicle image with the overlay applied, or click Close to close the pop-up and return to the vehicle record.
